Billie Faiers’ Baby Shower

So many people have been asking about the lovely set up we did for the beautiful Billie Faiers from TOWIE’s baby shower, so we thought we’d share a few pics and behind the scenes details with you…

The mum to be had planned a garden party spectacular, but true to form, the British weather ensured that the party had to take place indoors. We gave Billie a fab dessert table of delights – and our dinky donuts and strawberry shakes certainly went down a treat with Billie, Sam and her guests, and we were thrilled to see a pic of mum-to-be and sister with their shakes in OK! Magazine last week.Image

Guests were treated to customised favour bags with a message from the expectant mum and dad to be with our signature sweet and salty pink marshmallow popcorn.

Billie had wanted something pink and yellow to compliment her old fashioned afternoon tea so we gave her a retro sorbet coloured table with pink lemonade, charming pink favour, shot glass strawberry blancmange desserts and a retro styled pink pick and mix buffet that made it no secret that Billie was expecting a girl. We constructed an arch of satin ribbons as a backdrop for the dessert table. Billie later tweeted us saying “thank you for making my baby shower so beautiful” and the table was featured in OK! Magazine, with photos of mum-to-be looking showing off her bump and glowing in a wonderful white lace minidress, alongside gorgeous sister Sam Faiers, dad Greg and best friend Lucy Mecklenburgh and Fearne McCann and friends and family.

We wish Billie and Greg all the best with their new family and the rest of the pregnancy and to find out more information about our baby shower party packages and bespoke baby shower service visit our website or get in touch with a specialist baby shower party planning consultant!

Billie’s not the first celebrity to receive the Before Baby treatment – you can take a look at our other celeb baby showers from the likes of Stacey Solomon, Michelle Heaton and Sarah Cawood & Imogen Thomas on our site.

Garden Party Baby Shower for Kim Kardashian!

Image
Kim Kardashian’s garden party Baby Shower

It’s the baby shower we’ve all been waiting for….no, not the Duchess’s baby shower! Kim Kardashian’s baby shower of course…and here are all the details…

Kim’s family hosted a beautiful intimate garden party baby shower, with a white colour scheme with floral decoration and an ever so subtle hint of pink (’cause we all know she’s having a girl, even if she won’t say it!) plus delicate hanging floral balls. Guests wore lovely floral headdresses and were suitably attired to match the garden party theme. Kim looked stunning in a floor length Lanvin gown, and was joined by family, friends and fellow celebs Kelly Osbourne and Mel B  and camera-shy dad to be Kanye West even made a reluctant appearance.

Because summer has only just reared it’s head in beautiful Blighty (yay!!!), and let’s be honest, there’s no guarantees that it will last, you can get the outdoor baby shower look, indoors just like Kim with our beautiful afternoon tea Midsummer Tea baby shower, complete with vintage china, rose arch and delicate floral decorations. You can even upgrade and make mum-to-be and guests feel like Grecian goddesses like Kim with spa treatments from professional therapists and make up artists in our Spa Shower package, complete with gorgeous white spa robes for each guest to relax and be pampered in.

California Dreaming…of having a Kourtney Kardashian Style Second Baby Shower

We have to admit,we were a tad disappointed when Kourtney Kardashian held a present free,

Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and baby Mason at Kourtney’s second baby shower

game free baby shower a fortnight ago. So we were very happy that our faith in Kardashian extravagance was restored at her second baby shower last week. Yes, SECOND baby shower.

In California where the sun shines, money flows, and

Kourtney Kardashian at her second baby shower last week

pregnancies are always perfect, it didn’t at all seem extravagant for Kourtney to have a second (arguably superior) shower, that truly outdid the first in every way.

This time planned by her sisters, with a 90 strong guest list of friends and family, guests arrived to pink and white decorationsa traditional pink party for her impending baby girl in a colour scheme akin to our Pretty in Pink Baby Shower, enjoyed by Michelle Heaton & celebrity guests Katie Price & Sian Welby. Not only that, Kourtney’s guests  dined on sandwiches and sushi, played games, entered with piles of gifts, and left with favour bags full of goodies. A pretty good party in our opinion, but seriously, two baby showers in a fortnight? Only in California…! But as they would say in humble (?) Essex English – we have to admit we’re well jel.

Thinking Pink for your Baby Shower with star style? Then you’ve got loads of options to help you celebrate your new

baby girl like a celebrity:

  •  a pink afternoon tea style baby shower as enjoyed by  Victoria Beckham – a bespoke variation on our Midsummer Tea, with teatime treats served on a mixture of pink vintage china
  • a Pretty in Pink baby shower like Michelle Heaton with candy stripe canopy and colour coordinated pick and mix sweetie bar
  • a pink Midweek Mini baby shower, as seen in the Daily Mirror ‘s Celebs on Sunday magazine – with cupcakes and cocktails

Baby showers: Strictly No Men Allowed?

It seems like we’re not even fresh from the controversy of the gender reveal party, when we’re already faced with yet another crucial baby shower conundrum: should men be allowed at a baby shower?

Recently we’ve been lucky enough to see the baby showers of two uberglam women, Jessica Simpson and Shilpa Shetty. Just a few days ago, Bollywood bombshell Shilpa, well known on this side of the water for her stint on Celebrity Big Brother 2007, held a stylish, star studded high tea style baby shower, hosted by her sister. The bash was attended by her nearest and dearest but husband Raj Kundra, also put in an appearance.

The proud dad-to-be, tweeted a picture of himself with Shilpa and Sarita, actor R Madhavan’s wife and tweeted, “@ActorMadhavan missing you at the baby shower!! I feel like Krishan Kanaya with so many women :).

Similarly at Jessica Simpson’ baby shower, husband to be Eric, popped in for the gift opening and a few baby snaps.

So should partners, or men in general be allowed at a baby shower? It’s great that couples can share the entire pregnancy together, but surely there are some things that are solely the preserve of women, and surely we don’t all want to be seen dressing up in giant nappies in front of our men-friends? On the other hand it is nice to acknowledge that the menfolk did have a bit of a role in the process!

So before you throw your mixed baby shower bash here’s a few tips you might want to consider:

–       There’s no need to scrap the games and forfeits, but it might be nice to think wisely about your choice of games, just in case female guests don’t feel comfortable miming labour in front of your boyfriend/husband and his giggling pals

–       Don’t just invite dad to be, you can also invite his and your significant mates or male family members too, meaning he doesn’t feel so lonely!

–       Male vs female team games could bring an interesting dynamic to the proceedings. Suddenly the battle of the sexes could get very competitive…

–       Keep it light – steer the sentimentality towards the greetings cards and the private “girls only” moments, or better still….

–       Invite men in at the end of the shower or at appropriate moments. When Before Baby hosted star Michelle Heaton’s Pretty in Pink baby shower, her partner Hugh, boyfriends and husbands were asked to judge one of the baby shower games, then were formally invited in towards the end of the party for nibbles and drinks and mingling.

–       If you’re not going to invite men in, but expect them to wait with the handbags and children, at least drop heavy hints as to a place they can all meet up together for some boy bonding (if they know eachother). Otherwise be mindful of timings at your party so that they are not waiting around to pick up wives and girlfriends after the shower if it over runs.

–       A bit of thought in the present department for dad to be might not go amiss. I mean if mum to be will have stretch mark oil and pampering treats a bottle of champagne that the happy couple can share might be nice too?

–       Finally, understand that men, or partners just might not want to come, and rather to have less guests than unwilling ones! Don’t waste time being offended about it. After all, it just means more cupcakes and the cocktails for you…

Do you want a celebrity style baby shower like Shilpa?

Before Baby can plan the perfect couples or mixed, or girls only baby shower down to your choice of personalized games and activities run for you by our hostesses, prizes, decorations invitations. You can also have your choice of theme: You can opt for a high tea style baby shower like Shilpa with our Midsummer Afternoon Tea package including vintage crockery hire, or even have a Spa Shower with tea, makeovers or pampering, all held at home, work or in a venue of your choice from just £14.99pp

Everybody’s talking about….The Gender Reveal Craze

What do you think? As lovers of all things that come ‘before baby‘, but as with everything “baby shower” in the UK, there’s always a bit of controversy. Isn’t it tacky? Is it bad taste? Is it bad luck? Isn’t it just very un-British?

Take a bite into one of our fabulous gender reveal cakes with coloured sponge to announce babys gender
Tea Time: Take a bite into one of our fabulous gender reveal cakes with coloured sponge at an afternoon tea baby shower to announce babys gender

We at Before Baby are proud pioneers of the beautiful UK baby shower: non tacky, Tasteful with a capital T, and our take on the gender reveal craze is no exception. Last year, due to popular demand, we were happy to add gender reveal cakes and cupakes to our list of amazing extras for our baby shower packages for mums-to-be, plus games and activities such as a fun photobooth and guessing games to allow mums to celebrate their pregnancies in any way they felt comfortable to. But just since everyone’s talking about it again here’s our two cents (or should I say pennies?) worth on the subject:

Timing is key

Just as we advise with any of our baby showers, it’s so important to get the timing of the baby shower gender reveal just right. Many gender reveal parties occur as early as the dating scans, and this has been slammed by many midwives as irresponsible. Perhaps for obvious reasons, it just seems too early to celebrate your pregnancy at this point whilst many are still weighed down by superstition and the natural fear that accompanies motherhood to worry incessantly about the health and well being of your baby (which is not just a part of pregnancy – it continues everyday after birth too, and I’m told carries on till your child is way into their thirties/forever too!). It’s usually quite late in the day when a mum-to-be’s full scale nesting instinct properly kicks in (when suddenly every other word that comes out of mum to be’s mouth contains the crucial “b’s” baby, bugaboo, and bumbo seat) and it’s probably about this time, that it’s appropriate to have a gender reveal or baby shower – when mum to be is ready. However – important point- do not hold the shower too late – giving birth is not a fun baby shower activity so we’d recommend in approximately months 6-7 of pregnancy are ideal!

Keep it Lighthearted

baby shower photoprops offered by Before Baby
Before Baby have great ways to have a more lighthearted “British” gender reveal!

Whilst we proudly offer gender reveal cakes and gender based guessing games on demand, there is always the possibility of having the “reveal”…without the big reveal! Why not play games and discuss the sex of baby in advance at a party? – it’s half the fun to guess, plan and giggle about every aspect of the newborn we’re all eager to meet: characteristics, personality, features including gender,  but hold on a second!  In this age of genetically handpicking babies and with many parents with such strong feelings about the gender of the baby (e.g. if they’ve been trying for a boy for 10 years to find out “… it’s a girl!!!” in front of friends and family) just wouldn’t be appropriate in many cases to have a gender reveal, although that doesn’t mean you might not be able to have fun and games around the idea. Just don’t have to take it so seriously – no dream crushing –  no winners and no losers, after all we might all joke that baby might have mum to be’s curly hair at the shower, but no one actually cares whether we know the answer to this before they leave the party – they’re happy to let mother nature do the reveal, naturally. No one really has to reveal the sex at the party if they don’t want to.

Why not?

If mum to be and partner do know the sex and agree they want to share it with nearest and dearest with a gender reveal shower …what’s the fuss really all about? After all, isn’t it just the same as telling everyone the gender of the baby over the telephone, (or via email or Facebook) just a lot more fun!  Just because the big announcement is taking place at a party, it makes it no less personal. In fact, one might even go so far as to suggest it’s more practical: get everyone in the same place at the same time and answer the question on everyone’s lips simultaneously. It merely just saves on time and phonecalls!

Clearly, the best rule of thumb is that every stage of the baby shower should be about celebrating baby in the way that is appropriate to mum-to-be and her friends. The theme, the games, and activities like a gender reveal should be planned around her feelings and needs and what she feels comfortable sharing.

Thinking of gender revealing?

Baby Showers: Once is fine…but is twice a crime?

With the fantastic news of yummy mummy Kourtney Kardashian getting ready for another addition to the family, we’re eager to see she’ll negotiate the most controversial of baby shower conundrums: will she have a shower for baby number two?

In some circles, it’s a question of etiquette – it seems when it comes to baby showers that once is fine, but twice is a crime. In celebville, where money is plentiful and parties are thrown for the drop of a hat, there’s no problem with a little extravagance and fanfare to celebrate a second, but in everyday life, should you be bringing in the new birth with bells on again?

There’s no doubt, every new baby is a blessing, and deserves to be celebrated. And in some cases, there is often a reason that might seem to makes a second baby shower a necessity. There’s nothing lovelier than sharing the joy of the “miracle” babies they never thought they’d ever conceive… celebrating the baby girl she’s been wanting forever to balance out her boys, the excitement of a new birth after a miscarriage or the first child with a new partner. It seems then, it’s not a question of should you or shouldn’t you shower, it’s of just how you shower…

Here are a few tips for showering second/third/or even fourth time mums to be…

  • Hold a Baby Sprinkle – a US name for a baby shower where mum to be receives essentials such as nappies and wipes.  Simply perfecting the gift list or emphasizing that presents aren’t the emphasis will make it feel less tacky, and event the most seasoned mum veterans must have something they need to replace…new feeding bottles, dummies or even money towards a double buggy will not go unappreciated. If the baby is a different gender to the first child, then new clothes may also be welcomed.
  • Hold a Baby Shower for charity – follow the likes of Alyssa Milano and Jessica Alba and give back to those less fortunate to a charity of your choice. This is not just for celebs…it’s a wonderful way to celebrate your birth whilst helping others.
  • Gender reveal cake
For something different try a gender reveal party with cake...

Hold a Gender Reveal party –  time for something a little bit different…–with number two
it’s always interesting to see if mum will balance the brood with a baby of the opposite sex or have another of the same gender. Give guests something to wonder about by keeping the sex of the baby secret until the shower, or even finding a way to keep it from mum to be and revealing with a cake cutting at the ceremony. With our gender reveal cakes, when the cake is cut, the colour of the frosting or sponge will reveal the sex of your baby to your expectant guests! Invite your guests for cake and cocktails, bet on the sex before the reveal and brainstorm about baby names if you like!

  • Hold a Sip and See – what’s that you may ask? Originating in the Southern US of A, a baby shower after the birth is a common event, where friends and family gather to sip champagne (when mum can finally enjoy it) and loved ones can see the new baby (get it…. sip and see?) A baby shower does not have to be before baby…it can be after baby too, and this way mum gets all the visits out of the way in one go, leaving her time to get on with the other joys (?) of motherhood. Remember though that this should be done when mum is really ready, and is happy that baby won’t feel exposed to germs from visitors etc, and this is great as mum for mums that don’t want to celebrate until baby is safely delivered and in their arms at home.
  • Hold a Mum Shower – although baby showers are meant to be about mum, often she gets forgotten…bring a bit of much needed glitz and glamour into her life with a pampering spa shower or makeover Star Shower with her nearest and dearest at the shower and ensure gifts are only for mum-to-be, not baby. Feeling generous? You could even take it a step further and get dad to be a gift too.
  • Don’t be afraid to cut out the convention – swap the traditional trademarks of a shower: e.g. giftlists, games, and girl-only guestlists in favour of activities at the shower and involving daddy, menfriends and kids. Ensure guests don’t feel expected to contribute with presents but just are coming to join in the celebration. Hold fun activities that all can get involved in….thus keeping it low key, low cost and family focused… We love patchwork quilting, bump and face painting, for a relaxed shower with kids, and storybook making or babygro decorating for co-ed showers. For theme, our Girls Playground shower isn’t just for the girls, with colourful funfair theme, strictly non-girly invitations and decorations it ‘s both fun and accessible for anyone that’s just a big or little kid at heart.

This weekend, Before Baby hosted a surprise baby shower for singer & ‘I’m a Celebrity’ Jungle Queen Stacey Solomon. The  mum of one, who is as renowned for the voice that got her to the X Factor finals as much as for her bubbly Essex charm got together with more than 30 close friends and family for a private baby shower at her home to celebrate her new arrival.

Stacey’s been determined not to let the sex of her baby slip, so we kept the theme neutral and fun with our exclusive but ever-popular Girls Playground shower  – the funfair themed party was perfect for fun-loving Stacey and her lively friends and family.

Stacey couldn’t hide her surprise as a crowd of her friends and loved ones, balloons, bunting and the aroma of hot fresh popcorn greeted her on arrival, whilst inside, the glowing mum-to-be and guests sipped on our signature Before Baby alcohol free Lynchberg Lemonades in personalized bottles,  as well as had their pick of beautiful red cupcakes by La Tentation and popcorn. A full pick and mix sweetie bar, loaded with marshmallows, candy canes, rock dummies,  and personalized lollipops were there for Stacey and her loved ones to tuck into – a great mid-afternoon pick me up (or should we say sugar rush?) – perfect for providing everyone with a little bit of a boost to kick start the bumper selection of baby shower games we had in store.

A traditional baby clothes decorating activity eased guests into the fun, but rest assured in true Before Baby style it soon got very messy (and noisy!) with a naughty but nice obstacle course forcing Stacey & guests to test their motherly skills, speed and agility. Finally, make up artist nibras beautified Stacey’s bump with a beautiful design of a candy stripe cupcake. Stacey was showered with gifts from her loved ones, and was clearly glowing and very excited about her pregnancy .

We’re over the moon that Stacey enjoyed her day so much and wish her, Aaron, Zachary & family the best of luck.
